How do I enable two-factor authentication (MFA)?
Two-factor authentication adds a second check when you log in from a new device, which reduces the risk of someone else getting into your account. You can confirm your identity with an authentication app (such as Google Authenticator or Duo Mobile), a text message (SMS), or a security key.
Turn on two-factor authentication
- Open the account menu by selecting your name, then select Account.
- Under Security, select Account Password and Security. This opens Meta Accounts Center in a new tab.
- Select Set up two-factor authentication.
- Choose Authentication app, Text message (SMS), or Security key, then follow the on-screen instructions.
Add a backup method
Add a backup method in case there's a problem with your primary one. In the same Account Password and Security settings, choose a method under Add a backup method. Your backup must be a different type from your primary method.
If your code isn't working
If your two-factor authentication code doesn't work when you log in, select Try another way to see your other options.
