Meta Model API Acceptable Use Policy
Meta is committed to promoting safe and fair use of its tools and features, including Services and Meta Materials as defined in the Meta Model API Terms of Service. For the purposes of this Acceptable Use Policy, references to the “Services” include such “Meta Materials”.
Prohibited Uses.
We want everyone to use the Services safely and responsibly. You agree you will not use, or allow others to use, any Services, including any Outputs or Actions, or any Integrated Products (each as defined in the Meta Model API Terms of Service) to:
- Violate the law or others’ rights, including to:
- Infringe or facilitate the infringement of obligations under applicable law intended to protect fundamental rights, including but not limited to those relating to non-discrimination, privacy, data protection, freedom of expression, due process and access to justice
- Engage in, promote, generate, contribute to, encourage, plan, incite, or further illegal or unlawful activity or content, such as:
- Violence or terrorism
- Exploitation or harm to children, including the solicitation, creation, acquisition, or dissemination of child exploitative content or failure to report Child Sexual Abuse Material
- Human trafficking, exploitation, and sexual violence
- The illegal distribution of information or materials to minors, including obscene materials, or failure to employ legally required age-gating in connection with such information or materials
- Sexual solicitation
- Any other criminal activity
- Engage in, promote, incite, or facilitate the harassment, abuse, threatening or bullying of individuals or groups of individuals
- Engage in, promote, incite, or facilitate discrimination or other unlawful or harmful conduct in the provision of employment, employment benefits, credit, housing, leases, loans, other economic benefits, or other essential goods and services
- Engage in the unauthorized or unlicensed practice of any profession including, but not limited to, financial, insurance, legal, medical/health, tax, or other professional practices
- Collect, process, disclose, generate, or infer private or sensitive information about individuals, including information about individuals’ identity, health, biometric, or demographic information, unless you have obtained the right to do so in accordance with applicable law
- Create, generate, or share adult sexual or intimate imagery or clone or generate the voice or likeness of a real, identifiable person without their consent, including AI-generated or digitally altered (e.g., "deepfake") depictions
- Create, generate, distribute, or facilitate the creation of malicious code, malware, computer viruses or do anything else that could disable, overburden, interfere with or impair the proper working, integrity, operation or appearance of a website or computer system, including conducting or facilitating cyberattacks or other malicious or abusive cyber activity
- Compromise, damage, destroy, breach, exfiltrate, or gain or attempt to gain unauthorized access to another’s systems, networks, applications, devices, accounts, repositories, credentials, or other property, including through technical attacks, social engineering, or bypassing, disabling, or defeating any security control, authentication, endpoint protection, or monitoring measure
- Cause or materially contribute to a serious cybersecurity incident affecting the security, integrity, or availability of Meta or third party products, services, and network and information systems
- Identify, scan for, or exploit vulnerabilities in any system, network, or application without proper authorization from the system, network, or application owner
- Develop, enhance, or operationalize tools, frameworks, or capabilities designed primarily for offensive cyber operations or as cyberweapons
- Compromise or introduce vulnerabilities, backdoors, or malicious code into software supply chains, code repositories, package managers, update mechanisms, or shared development infrastructure
- Remove, alter, obscure, or otherwise tamper with any watermark, label, metadata, or other provenance signal applied to or associated with any content or Meta technologies, including the Services (whether as part of Integrated Products or otherwise), or any Outputs
- Distribute or make available Outputs (including through any Integrated Products) without preserving watermarks, labels, metadata, or other provenance signals that Meta has applied to such Outputs
- Engage in any action, or facilitate any action, to intentionally circumvent, bypass, disable, or remove usage restrictions or other safety or security measures or controls, or to enable functionality disabled or restricted by Meta
- Create or use accounts, identities, access, or use methods to evade enforcement actions, suspensions, controls, or other restrictions previously imposed by Meta
- Deploy or use the Services, Outputs, or any Integrated Products without completing any regulatory classification, registration, or authorization required of AI systems under applicable law
- Use the Services or any Integrated Products for prohibited biometric or surveillance practices, including to:
- Identify or track a specific individual based on biometric data, including facial recognition, without a lawful basis and consent where required by applicable law
- Engage in the untargeted scraping of facial images from the internet or CCTV footage to build facial recognition databases
- Track or re-identify a specific individual across images, video frames, sessions, locations, or devices on the basis of appearance, clothing, gait, or other visual characteristics, without a lawful basis and consent where required by applicable law
- Engage in emotion recognition in the workplace or education, save as permitted by applicable law
- Categorize people based on their biometric data to deduce or infer their race, political opinions, trade union membership, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life or sexual orientation
- Engage in real-time biometric identification in publicly accessible spaces for the purposes of law enforcement, save as permitted by applicable law
- Deploy subliminal, manipulative, or deceptive techniques to distort behavior by impairing decision making, or exploit people due to their age, disability, or a specific social or economic situation to distort their behavior
- Evaluate or classify individuals based on social behavior or personal traits in a manner that leads to detrimental or unfavorable treatment, either in a context unrelated to the original data or that is unjustified or disproportionate
- Engage in predictive policing or criminal risk assessments based on profiling or assessing personality traits and characteristics
- Conduct or facilitate mass or indiscriminate surveillance of people, places, groups, or events for law enforcement or national security purposes
- Engage in, promote, incite, facilitate, or assist in the planning or development of activities that present a risk of death, serious harm to health, bodily harm to individuals, or serious harm to property or the environment, or serious and irreversible disruption of the management or operation of critical infrastructure, including use of the Services or any Integrated Products related to the following:
- Military, warfare, nuclear industries or applications, espionage, use for materials or activities that are subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) maintained by the United States Department of State or to the U.S. Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989 or the Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation Act of 1997, or in a manner that would violate U.S. or other applicable export control restrictions
- Firearms, explosives, and illegal weapons (including weapon development)
- Illegal drugs and regulated/controlled substances
- Operation of critical infrastructure, transportation technologies, or heavy machinery
- Self-harm or harm to others, including suicide, cutting, and eating disorders
- Any content or actions intended to incite or promote violence, extremism, terrorism, abuse, or any infliction of bodily harm to an individual
- Intentionally deceive or mislead others, including use of the Services or any Integrated Products related to the following:
- Generating, promoting, or furthering fraud or the creation or promotion of disinformation
- Generating, promoting, or furthering defamatory content, including the creation of defamatory statements, images, or other content
- Generating, promoting, or further distributing spam
- Impersonating another individual without consent, authorization, or legal right
- Representing that Outputs are human-generated
- Generating or facilitating false online engagement, including fake reviews and other means of fake online engagement
- Use the Services to operate AI agents (including models, harnesses, or other components thereof) or automated systems, or otherwise take Actions in ways that evade human oversight or accountability, including to:
- Circumvent, disable, or evade human review, monitoring, or other oversight controls applicable to the Services
- Conceal an agent's actions, objectives, or automated nature where disclosure is required, or split tasks across sessions, accounts, or agents to evade detection or safeguards
- Delegate to, or coordinate with, other systems or persons to carry out actions that would be prohibited if performed directly
- Use the Services to autonomously interact with systems or services in a manner that violates the terms of service or acceptable use policies of those systems or services
- Take consequential or irreversible actions through connected accounts, tools, or services, including entering binding legal commitments or executing destructive operations in production environments, without appropriate authorization, human oversight, review, and confirmation mechanisms
- Fail to appropriately disclose to End Users any known material risks or limitations of your Integrated Products or other AI systems, where such disclosure is required by applicable law or necessary to prevent reasonably foreseeable harm
- Interact with third party tools, models, or software designed to generate unlawful content or engage in unlawful or harmful conduct and/or represent that the outputs of such tools, models, or software are associated with Meta or its Services
- Rely on Outputs to make decisions affecting an individual’s fundamental rights, health, or safety without a qualified person reviewing the Outputs
Exceptions.
Meta may, in its sole discretion, grant exceptions to this Acceptable Use Policy for legitimate cybersecurity research, educational purposes, governmental use cases, or other circumstances where Meta determines that adequate safeguards are in place to mitigate the potential harms addressed by this policy.
